Sergio is a PhD candidate that focusses on capturing extracellular matrix produced by cardiac progenitor cells using supramolecular biomaterials. He holds a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering with a special track in Regenerative Medicine and Technology obtained at Eindhoven University of Technology. As a master student, Sergio used supramolecular hydrogels to culture cardiac progenitor cells and study ECM formation in a 3D environment. Additionally, Sergio completed his Master of Science degree by performing an external project in the group of Prof. Kristi Anseth at the University of Colorado Boulder. During the external project, synthetic hydrogels were created based on UV-activated and reversible covalent chemistry. Furthermore, Sergio obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. As a bachelor student, Sergio post-modified supramolecular surfaces with peptides using chemoselective ligation strategies.
