Soumik Dinda
“Synthesis and Development of Peptide-Based Supramolecular Assemblies to Combat Antibiotic-Resistant Bacterial Infections”
Soumik earned his Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in chemistry from the University of Calcutta in 2012 and went on to complete his master’s degree in chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 2014. He received his Ph.D. in 2020 from the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, India under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Prasanta Kumar Das. His doctoral research centred on the design and synthesis of membrane-mimetic supramolecular self-assembled systems with potential applications in biomedicine. Following his Ph.D., Soumik joined the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bengaluru, India, as a National Postdoctoral Fellow (SERB-NPDF) under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. T. Govindaraju. During this period, he contributed to groundbreaking work on peptidomimetic supramolecular self-assemblies designed to modulate the aggregation of toxic amyloid-beta peptides to combat neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, Soumik is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the group of Prof. Dr. Dr. Patricia Dankers at TU/e, working on the Dartbac project. His research now focuses on the design and development of peptide-based antimicrobial supramolecular assemblies, with the objective of targeting resistant bacterial infections.
